I Wonder How, Amidst All This Magnificence ...

It amazes me when someone claims to be an atheist. Even agnostics give me pause to wonder ... "How? How can you witness all of this magnificent, unfathomablly complex, vast and gradiose cration, and not 'see' God in the All of IT!" Please relax and enjoy this six minute clip, and then tell me ...

... how can anyone not acknowledge the miraculous, majestic, and powerful presence of God?

Take in the glory of God all around you today, and every day, and take the time, while meditating in prayerful wonder, to (Psalm 46:10) ...

What Difference a Mentor Makes

In the fall of 2009 I was driving a group of teenagers around as they went door to door to sell candy bars to raise money for our new boxing program. One of the homes had a 16 yr old in it who was excited to hear about the program. He was soon at the gym where I began a mentoring relationship with him. His story is like far too many young men in the Saginaw area—black, white, Hispanic it doesn’t matter if they have no dad in their life. When he was an infant his father went to prison (where he still is today). His mom did her best, working two jobs while finishing nursing school and providing for her three children—yet as he was becoming a young man she was not able to control him, and … the home life became a battle ground.

Things got to the breaking point at home and, since I had developed a mentoring relationship with this (now 17 yr old) young man, he got dropped off here. I was sitting in my office when he came in one evening this past winter and asked if he could stay with me. In the natural there was just no way. Financially I was already stressed to the point of not knowing how I would even feed myself, let alone a teenager, and then there are the added expenses of time and money, taking him to school, going to the barber, to and from friends for social times, all that and the unlimited etcetera of parental/mentoring involvement with any young person. It was way out of the realm of “possible”—in the harsh reality of the natural. So what did I say?

I, ignoring the natural's nagging opposition and following the spiritual's assurance, said, “Of course, son—you are welcome in my home.” I am very proud of this young man as he is finishing school this year and has enlisted in the US Army. It is a struggle financially. I literally live day to day, trusting God for the provision needed, yet my investment into his life has made a difference.

I also mentor two younger teens who are brothers—14 & 13 years old. The older brother is in the boxing program. These two young men, both promising fellows coming from a less-than-promising home and family situation, have seen their lives turned upside down in the past year. Their dad went to prison for at least 25 years this past summer. Home life, after that, became even more unstable. Their grandparents have taken them in—even though they don’t have an actual room for them to stay in. I feed them, got them both into the Y, cheer the older one on in boxing and listen to the younger brother play his saxophone as I build my mentoring relationship with them.

All three young men I mentor have become good friends. I take them all to the Y several nights each week after boxing practice. Last week, as I was being (willingly) tortured on the elliptical, I saw my three boys all in the Jacuzzi enjoying themselves after a long day. What I did not know, until the oldest one told me later, was the gist of the conversation they were having. The eldest youth was talking like a big brother to the other two, encouraging them to stay focused on what matters: do well in school, stay in church, and stay off the streets. On the way home one of the brothers called their grandparents to see if they could get some pizza. After working out at boxing and then running 5 miles at the Y he was hungry! He was easily overheard saying, Oh wow, really, all we have is ramen noodles? Well I have two dollars, I could help if—“

The oldest youth, the one who lives with me, quickly chimed in, “I got five dollars. You can have that, help you get some pizza.”

Folks, that was all the money he had. Five bucks. He often doesn’t often any money but his grandfather had handed him a five spot at the Y that night. As I dropped off the two younger brothers I said, “Well good night, guys,” and I added, “I love you.”

“Love you too, Pastor,” was their unison response with welcomed grins on their faces. Then the youngest brother reached into the car, tapped his friend on the shoulder and said, “I love you too, man.”

To which his older brother immediately responded, “Yeah, man—I love you too.”

Now picture this. One African-American teenager, two Hispanic teenagers, all three boys with fathers in prison, who—given their differing ethnic backgrounds and ghetto upbringings—would typically be in opposing camps, hateful toward each other, even gang-warring enemies of each other, are able to say, out loud, the words ‘I love you.’ Not just to me, who is a father figure to them, but to each other. Look up the statistics on how many young men who grow up without fathers fare (70 % of long-term inmates grew up fatherless) and you will see just how powerful that simple moment was.

I am just one man, giving time and effort into three young lives. Imagine what would happen in my ministry if I were able to train up more men to do what I am doing? Last year a mother brought her 13 yr old son to the boxing gym. When I met her she told me, with tears in her eyes, that she was a single mom and really needed to get her son into something positive to help him from getting into trouble as he had no father. That young man came a few times but his mom, with limited resources, was not able to continue to bring him. I had no mentor available to become part of his life. I now see his Facebook status updates—they talk about gangs, drugs, sex, and violence. Here is a recent un-edited update:

“damn on ld almost got locked up earlier all i gotta say is fuck tha police dey kicked but all n my guts”

You may not think you can do much about the seemingly overwhelming need here in the Saginaw area. Let me tell you, especially you men, that becoming a mentor can and does make a difference. This young man just messaged me recently again about the boxing program. I still have no mentor for him and the many others who come into my facility. What are you willing to do about it? If you don’t live in my area then you can help by becoming a financial supporter, helping provide the finances for me to be able to train up mentors and stem the tide of hopelessness so many young fatherless teens face here in Saginaw. All I ask is a pledge of $20 per month, just $.66 per day, to help me grow this ministry.

Back to you men—yes, you, men. Ladies are, of course, welcome to be mentors and help the ministry—I find that I don’t often have to ask the women for help, they step it up by their nature, it seems. It is you men who I am having a difficult time getting motivated. Just one more man stepping up would make a difference in a now 14 year old’s life. If something doesn’t change for him soon he will become another sad statistic of failure—our failure as a community of faith and love to help raise him.

Will you answer the call?

Also, PD wanted to close this post with this very insightful and apt anecdote. Enjoy, ponder, and do what the Spirit moves you to do, hm?

One morning an elderly man was walking on a nearly deserted beach. He came upon a boy surrounded by thousands and thousands of starfish. As eagerly as he could, the youngster was picking them up and throwing them back into the ocean.
Puzzled, the older man looked at the youngster and said, "Little boy, what are you doing?"

The youth responded without looking up, "I'm trying to save these starfish, sir."

The old man chuckled aloud, and queried, "Son, there are thousands of starfish and only one of you. What difference can you make?"

Holding a starfish in his hand, the boy turned to the man and, gently tossing the starfish into the water, said, "It will make a difference to that one!"

Put your faith into action …

Do The Math, Folks - It Has to Add Up to God-Worthy!

We all get bombarded every day with numbers we cannot possibly comprehend. Our government spending in the billions, budgets of trillions – a few million here, a billion there – just numbers we cannot visualize or appreciate for their actual value. As for the vast majority of us, we will never personally experience such financial numbers in our life. So, class – today we will take a look at a simple number you can all relate to and comprehend.  Ready? Here we go ... today's number to consider is a relatively miniscule one:

66

The number 66 is the focus of our financial life lesson today. Class, what can we buy for $.66?

This, perhaps?

Nope! The average price of a cup of java from Starbucks runs from $2.50 - $5.00. Sorry, butcha ain't got 'nuff dough with your paltry sixty six cents for even that ...

Well, then ,,, how 'bout this?

  Nice try, but – sorry, hun ... still no. The average price for a small candy bar is now $.89. You are still twenty three cents short!

"Ah!" you say, "but – I know what I can buy!"

Getting closer, yes, but still ... NO BANANA! $.75 is the average for a daily print, even higher for Sunday versions. Frustrating, isn't it? It's a cryin' shame how little you can get for $.66 these days!

Hmmm – so we are having a wee bit of a hard time finding anything of value for $.66 aren't we? Well, let's consider ... what about the number itself? What are some important occurances, significant aspects of the number “66”?

For one thing, there are 66 books in the Bible – we suggest you read them all! And get this ... if you turn to the 66th chapter in the Bible you will find in Exodus 16 this verse:

Then the LORD said to Moses, “I will rain down bread from heaven for you. The people are to go out each day and gather enough for that day.

God provided manna daily to meet the needs of His people. And how about The Lord's Prayer - can you guess how many words it is composed of?

You guessed it – 66 words! We recommend living these 66 words each and every day. But let's get back to 66 when it comes to the loose change you have daily in your pocket. Here - here's what a mere $.66 looks like:

So far in our search we havn’t been able to find anything in our normal daily routine financially that is affordable or valuable at the low, low cost of $.66, have we? But - we do like the number 66! It's a good number, right?

"But why?" you ask, "and what is the meaning of it all, this seemingly divine number? How can I best put to use such little money - money that is hardly of any value in my daily life - money I could spend or lose and not even miss it!?"

Well class, I have good news for you! Let me teach you how $.66 per day has a value that will last for eternity! You see, class, $.66 per day = $20 per month.That twenty spot would enable Shiloh's Lighthouse Ministry to stay financially solvent and thrive, being able to help out youngsters like this -

For just $20 per month you could help a teenager whose father is no longer in the home or in his/her life have a mentor that will guide them through adolescence and help keep them from becoming yet another depressing statistic of societal failure.

You will make a difference in the lives of single mothers as they find the support to raise their children surrounded by a community of faith and love.

You will help an addict get set free from the bondage of addiction.

You will help develop strong bodies and minds through our boxing program.

Consider this, from a recent article in the Saginaw News, written by editorial journalist, Lindsay Knake, the title of the article which says it all:

"More Than One-Fourth of Saginaw County Children Living In Poverty!"

This is where we live, where we have planted our stake in the ground and claimed it as our turf. Our home, in which we work, witness, sow spiritual seeds, and make it possible for God's Work to be done ... by us, His servants!

So. You want to know how to make use of about 2/3 of one buck each day toward that divine end? Here's how.

In an area where more than 25% of the children live in poverty, by pledging just $.66 per day ($20 a month) you will help us reach out to many children and families in need as we help them find whole-person balance: Mentally, Socially, Physically, Financially and Spiritually.

Alright class, there you have it. 66 is a good number! Now, for your homework, I want you to use 66 in a practical way. Go to the SLM web site, by Clicking HERE - and sign up to receive blessings that will go way beyond $.66 per day in value to you by joining our monthly financial support team! Give a small gift today, and commit yourself to $.66 per day in support of SLM. You will soon be telling all your friends just how awesome the number 66 is.

Class dismissed – now get to your homework!

Good Works Do Not Equal Grace

It is “religious season” right now. For all of the C & E “Christians” (Christmas and Easter) this is one of the two times each year when they clean up their act and try to do good things. Religion, by my definition, equals man made rules and regulations, created and used by those in position of 'authority', to manipulate and control others ... while attempting to force them into their perceived image of God, and their particular ideas about how to live and serve God.

I’m not a fan of religion—I am a fan of a personal relationship with Jesus. For me there is no “season” of doing good. My challenge is 24/7-365 to live in such a way as to honor and serve God in all I do. I don’t give up trifling things for short, 'special' periods of time—calling it a fast. I don’t pray out loud before every meal. I don’t burden myself with religious traditions that do little to help me have a personal relationship with Jesus.

This time of year is no more “holy” than any other time –God is holy, just, and righteous year round and, by the way, He is not confined to our calendar. So whether we celebrate Easter in March or April matters not to Him. He would much prefer we “celebrate” the significance of Easter every day in our lives. I’m a simple preacher. I don’t think God made the Bible to be overly complicated. Look at this section of scripture: For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. Ephesians 2:8-9 (NKJV).

I ran across this cute, but also poignant short clip about the difference between “good works” and “grace,” and wanted to share it with you today. Enjoy, but also consider ...

We are saved by grace—God’s grace, and God’s grace only. So while I think it is quaint—the traditions man has come up with relating to certain times of the year to give thanks and celebrate—I’m vastly more grateful for God’s amazing grace. Thanks to His grace toward me, my “file” is clean. I do good works, of course, but it is His grace that has set me free. If you are in the Saginaw area I invite you to come check out a church that focuses on a personal relationship with the living God instead of how well you dress or what you have done in your life. I will offer you the opportunity to do good works, but more importantly I will teach you about God’s grace, and how to have a growing, intimate relationship with Him. No suit or tie required—just a willingness and desire to be the person God created you to be.

Keep the Faith ...

Pastor Dana

There is No Honor Among Thieves

What a way to start a Monday. I walked into my church to discover it had been robbed. A phone call from a neighbor later in the day let me know that around three a.m. she was awakened by a loud car and saw three people in a Grand Am, or “that kind of car,” had found the side door off of our boxing gym was ajar, and took advantage of it to steal into the church. They grabbed musical instruments and equipment, as well as the computer speaker system—right off my desk—then snuck off into the night. As word spread of the theft, the expected response ensued.

“How can people steal from God? How can anyone stoop so low as to steal from a church!?”

I heard several versions of that and, I concur that robbing the House of God is wrong. Dead wrong. And I am thankful that there are requests out to help us replace the stolen property, with some responses already coming back of promises to assist us in restocking our Praise Band’s much needed equipment.

My higher, spiritual take on the situation, though, is this: there is no honor among thieves. You see, I have thieves in my church—I believe every church has thieves in it, and we all know thieves will steal from each other and be stolen from. What am I talking about? Let me refer you to Malachi 3:6-11 (The Message)
Verses 6-7-

“I am God—yes, I Am. I haven't changed. And because I haven't changed, you, the descendants of Jacob, haven't been destroyed. You have a long history of ignoring my commands. You haven't done a thing I've told you. Return to me so I can return to you," says God-of-the-Angel-Armies.

You ask, “But how do we return?”

Verses 8-11 –
"Begin by being honest. Do honest people rob God? But you rob me day after day. "

You ask, “How have we robbed you?”

"The tithe and the offering—that's how! And now you're under a curse —the whole lot of you—because you're robbing me. Bring your full tithe to the Temple treasury so there will be ample provisions in my Temple. Test me in this and see if I don't open up heaven itself to you and pour out blessings beyond your wildest dreams. For my part, I will defend you against marauders, protect your wheat fields and vegetable gardens against plunderers."

My church is not atypical – it is all too typical when it comes to tithing. Most studies find that the average church receives 2-3% in “tithing.” The tithe, by the way, is 10%. That’s right. Ten cents out of every precious dollar you earn is not yours it belongs to God. If you are not tithing to God then you are a thief. Since my church has thieves in it, I cannot be surprised when other thieves don’t respect it and steal from it.

"B-b-but, hey—w-wait a minute, Pastor Dana … that’s not the same thing!" you say ...

Really? I have people call me 24/7 when they are in crisis (funny how they don’t call when life seems to be going well, just to ask me how I am doing), who haven’t tithed into the church. As they rob God, they rob me; they rob from others in the church, their families. as well as their community. Over my many years of pastoring I have seen in the church people helping themselves to church supplies. Most of these same individuals are people who rarely give anything at all to the church.

Trust me, I have seen just about all there is when it comes to observing the selfishness and ‘thievery’ so ubiquitous amongst those who would call themselves ‘Christians.’ From being a child in a parsonage where people came over unannounced, intruding into my parents’ personal lives as if it were not their own to have, to living in one where people will walk in and help themselves to my food without the courtesy or respect to ask first—I have seen the selfish, thoughtlessness of man, even (especially?) those who claim to follow the Way of Christ, and, well … I am therefore not at all surprised when thieves strike in my church.

Is God going to “get them?” Those terrible thieves who took from our church? Hmm … a particular scripture comes to mind.

“Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.” Galatians 6:7 (NKJV)

In time, the crooks who struck my church will reap what they have sown—all the thieves, that is. Make no mistake, even if you are a regular church attendee or a person who does all sorts of good deeds, if you are not one who tithes, well, then ...
You. Are. A. Thief.

And you will reap what you have sown.

I have a simple challenge to all you thieves out there – tithe. Give 10% to your church. If you do not attend a church, then tithe into a godly work. The book of Malachi is the only place in the Bible where God says it is acceptable to test Him, and that test was in the tithe.

So go ahead … I triple dog dare you to start tithing! Will it result in never-a-bad-thing-happening-to-you-ever again? Nope. Can’t promise that, and please don’t be so naive as to expect that. What it will do is open up heaven itself and you will find yourself blessed to abundance. What that ‘abundance’ means is a message for another time, another post, but a quick interjection here on abundance: it is not always found in your bank account.

You want to debate this issue with me? Fine, but with one hard and fast prerequisite. Start tithing. Test the divine system for yourself. For the next six months, give your tithe duly and regularly to the church. Then get back to me and we’ll talk!

Keep the Faith ...

Pastor Dana

Like a Thief in the Night

Last night our church was robbed. Yup. Apparently there aren't enough easy marks around this area to break into, so these cads had to go into the House of God to get their petty spoils. Took two guitars, a guitar amplifier and effects pedal, a keyboard, and a monitor speaker. Snuck in through the gymnasium side door, which apparently had not been pulled shut tightly enough to engage the lock. We don't have theft of contents insurance--only catastrophic coverage--and even if we had, the $1,000 deductable would've made the point moot. So we lost some of our stuff, some of the tools we use for Praise and Worship services.

Just things.

Things are replaceable. We worry not about somehow replacing them. Our people and friends will rally, work together and find a way to restock the Praise Band's equipment. It's not the loss of 'things' that troubles me enough to compose and publish this short post. No. It's the loss of the soul that troubles me, that gives me pause for great concern.

Obviously, if you are reading this and could help with a donation of musical equipment and/or cash with which to replace the things we have been relieved of, that would be greatly appreciated ... but more importantly ...

Please join me, Pastor Dana, and the rest of SLM's congregation in prayer for the person or persons who stole from us. An act like this--taking from the church, stealing in like cowards under cloak of darkness in the wee hours of the morning--is evidence of lost souls, a sad state of disconnection from God.  A morose madness of the mind, heart, and soul.

Jesus has promised He will come "as a thief in the night," when we least expect it. Let us pray together that whoever took what was not theirs from the church last night will find Him, repent, be forgiven and made whole--a new creation in Christ--before the end of days and the point of no return.

God bless you all , thank you for taking the time to read this, and thank you in advance for your help in whatever capacity it is possible.

Rejoice in the Lord today, and every day! God is Good!

Your Friend,
Marvin D Wilson (the Old Silly himself)

Sowing and Reaping

Editor's Note and Update: As you all are probably well aware by now, Japan has been devastated by a record-setting and horrific earthquake followed by a monstrous tsunami, that has killed hundreds and left countless others homeless and their lives shattered. And now they face nuclear radiation leaking from damaged plants in the nightmarish melee. Please join us in prayer for the people of Japan as they strive to bring their lives and country back together. God bless and keep the faithful, and may all our brothers and sisters in Japan find restoration and peace as swiftly as possible.

Thank you. Now on with our feature post-

~~~~~
Sowing and Reaping
Even though the ground is still frozen and the area a dirty snow and muddy mess, my thoughts are leaning toward an anticipated harvest in a few months from our garden.  Compost material is being gathered and plans are beginning to form as to what kind of seeds we will sow into the ground his year.
I am a firm believer that God uses the natural to show us the supernatural. There is a well-established correlation, spiritually, between sowing and reaping.  As a pastor my heart longs for revival—a spiritual awakening that changes the city and reaches out to the region, then the country, and eventually to all nations. Any pastor who has the heart of God has this desire. The trap for many ministries, mine included, is to look to the people coming—the congregation—for what they can provide (i.e.: finances, donating their time and talents to help the church, etc.) and wanting others to come in to fill the many empty ministry opportunities ... while mistakenly not doing much sowing into their lives.
I have rich soil on my ministry’s property yet I, along with the others who call Shiloh’s Lighthouse their church 'home' and claim ownership of 'our ministry,' must work the soil this spring. We must sow seeds into the ground, toil and sweat over it ... before we can expect a harvest—a “revival” of new life-enriching foods that will strengthen our bodies and minds, helping to keep us healthy.
Spiritually I find myself on rich ground as well, but the ground needs to be toiled over. More must be done to work it and more sowing needs to happen into the lives of those who call Shiloh’s Lighthouse their church, their spiritual home, as well as into the community we live in.  Many souls come to this ministry during the week ... how many of them have ever been asked a simple question: "How can I pray for you?" We all interact with souls in need every day, and ... so few of us do anything to sow into their lives.
We have a Taco Dinner Fund-Raiser coming up on Friday the 18th of this month. This time, as I greet people, I will ask them that question: "How can I pray for you?" I will give them the opportunity to be heard, for me to sow into their lives. I want a spiritual harvest—staring at the ground and wishing it into existence won’t make it happen. A wise man I loved and learned much from had this to say about sowing and reaping:
“No farmer will attempt to reap a harvest without proper sowing of seed. This demands, as well, a proper preparation of soil. Naturally, thinking of Sowing and Reaping as in Spiritual matters, 'sowing' refers to the teaching, preaching, and witnessing of the Word of God, and 'reaping' speaks of the fruit, in another word: REVIVAL!
"Soil must be prepared; fallow ground must be broken up. Without it we cannot have revival in the world, nor in cold, dead, indifferent churches. Revival begins first with the pastor, then the church, and then the world! The pastor is awakened, greatly burdened, then one by one the church gets revived, then comes the mighty outpouring of the Holy Ghost revival in which the unsaved are gathered in the grand harvest of reaping what has been sowed. But our hearts must become prepared first, then the sowing, then the reaping.”
~~Rev. Frank Wilson, preaching in Lexington, KY, June 23rd, 1957~~
Rev. Frank Wilson was my earthly father. This pastor’s heart, like his Father's, is longing for a spiritual harvest – will you join me in the sowing and the reaping?
Keep the faith ….
Pastor Dana Wilson
'God' Explained by an Eight Year Old
Something a little different to share with you all today. I ran across this short but charming and remarkably insightful essay that was written by--get this--an 8-year-old named Danny Dutton, who lives in Chula Vista, CA. He wrote it for his third grade homework assignment, to "explain God." I wonder if any of us could have done as well?
EXPLANATION OF GOD
One of God's main jobs is making people. He makes them to replace the ones that die, so there will be enough people to take care of things on earth. He doesn't make grownups, just babies. I think because they are smaller and easier to make. That way he doesn't have to take up his valuable time teaching them to talk and walk. He can just leave that to mothers and fathers.
God's second most important job is listening to prayers. An awful lot of this goes on, since some people, like preachers and things, pray at times besides bedtime. God doesn't have time to listen to the radio or TV because of this. Because he hears everything, there must be a terrible lot of noise in his ears, unless he has thought of a way to turn it off.
God sees everything and hears everything and is everywhere which keeps Him pretty busy. So you shouldn't go wasting his time by going over your mom and dad's head asking for something they already said you couldn't have.
Atheists are people who don't believe in God. I don't think there are any in Chula Vista. At least there aren't any who come to our church.
Jesus is God's Son. He used to do all the hard work, like walking on water and performing miracles and trying to teach the people who didn't want to learn about God. They finally got tired of him preaching to them and they crucified him. But he was good and kind, like his father, and he told his father that they didn't know what they were doing and to forgive them and God said O.K.
His dad (God) appreciated everything that he had done and all his hard work on earth so he told him he didn't have to go out on the road anymore. He could stay in heaven. So he did. And now he helps his dad out by listening to prayers and seeing things which are important for God to take care of and which ones he can take care of himself without having to bother God. Like a secretary, only more important.
You can pray anytime you want and they are sure to help you because they got it worked out so one of them is on duty all the time. You should always go to church on Sunday because it makes God Happy, and if there's anybody you want to make happy, it's God!
Don't skip church to do something you think will be more fun like going to the beach. This is wrong. And besides the sun doesn't come out at the beach until noon anyway.
If you don't believe in God, besides being an atheist, you will be very lonely, because your parents can't go everywhere with you, like to camp, but God can. It is good to know He's around you when you're scared, in the dark or when you can't swim and you get thrown into real deep water by a big kid.
But ... you shouldn't just always think of what God can do for you. I figure God put me here and he can take me back anytime he pleases.
And ... that's why I believe in God.
Freedom From Addiction
A Message of Freedom by Pastor Dana
 Is this the Jesus you serve?
Keep a cool head. Stay alert. The Devil is poised to pounce, and would like nothing better than to catch you napping. Keep your guard up. You're not the only ones plunged into these hard times. 1 Peter 5:8-9 (The Message)
There is a plague that has swept across our great country, a plague that has hit especially hard here in the Saginaw area – the plague is addiction. Michigan passed a medical marijuana law making it legal for medicinal use of the substance. The ensuing flood of applications for medical marijuana use cards overwhelmed the state. Really? We have that many people who have true medicinal needs to use the substance? No – what we have is a situation in which that many pot smokers have been enabled by money-seeking doctors. Physicians who are all too willing to charge $200 a person to “diagnose” a “patient” with some chronic condition.
Since when has being lazy, un-employed because of refusing to look for work because of having a sore back, knee, or some other boo boo constituted a chronic condition? Since the passage of this law, it seems, as these doctors are now lining their pockets with loads of cash and keeping addicts well supplied with their drug of choice. I have yet to meet a person who has what I would perceive as an actual chronic medical condition that would justify the use of marijuana. What I have met are many, many addicts all too happy to flash their medical use card as if that justifies their life of bondage and addiction.
Within a five block area in what is called Old Town Saginaw you can find over a dozen drinking establishments. Multiple party stores line the city streets, making alcohol readily available; every grocery store has well-stocked alcohol products. In Saginaw County there are currently 345 active alcohol licenses in use, making this all too often abused substance readily available to continue to destroy individual lives and tear apart families.
Legally prescribed drugs also are abused and sources of addiction. Children are drugged into zombies so teachers don’t have to teach discipline in the classroom and parents don’t have to parent – just give little Johnny some Ritalin and then tell him to "just say no" to drugs. Depression and other psychological issues such as bi-polar disorder are common now as it is becoming harder and harder to find people who are not taking some kind of drug to treat something. We are the fattest nation on the planet as food addiction has also taken root, something I know about all too personally.
This Pastor doesn’t see a demon behind every bad thing that happens. What I do see is that in my area there is a demonic stronghold of addiction. In my own congregation I cannot name a person who has not either directly or indirectly been affected by addiction in a negative way. Knowing this and having a strong desire to see people get set free I decided it was time to act. No marches or public rallies. I’m not going to write a book or make TV appearances. I’m going to pray.
“If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14 (NKJV)
I’m also going to invite you to pray with me and, if you need it, to get set free from the bondage of addiction--be it physical, emotional or spiritual. Beginning this Saturday night, and continuing on weekly thereafter, we are holding an evening service that will be a night of worship, prayer, healing and deliverance. The services will start at 6 PM. Anyone is invited no matter their church affiliation or lack thereof is. These evenings will be times of freedom and refreshing – they will be a time to get set free. Addiction does not have to control your life anymore. Do you want to be free? Do you have loved ones who need to be set free? Come Saturday night and let the awesome presence and power of the One True Living God flood over you and completely set you free.
Keep the faith …
